Automatic self-priming peripheral pumps are centrifugal pumps having an impeller that revolves in a largely circular casing channel with an input and an outlet opening. They are also known as regenerative pumps. High amounts of energy are imparted to the fluid as it repeatedly cycles between the casing channel and the impeller.
Â
Overall, the fluid travels with increasing pressure around the casing's perimeter from the intake to the outlet. A hydraulic short circuit between the high-pressure and low-pressure sides of the casing channel is avoided by placing a stripper between the outlet and the intake.
Automatic self-priming peripheral pumps can be quite modest in size because of the significant energy increase. Frequently, they are made to be close-coupled pumps.
